Impressions:
Dragonforged carries a recognizable character of Lee's tuning philosophy, particularly in its spatial presentation. Rather than pursuing sheer width or exaggerated separation, it creates a wonderfully relaxed and natural soundstage with convincing front-to-back depth. Instruments are arranged in distinct layers, each maintaining its own space without feeling disconnected from the overall performance. The upper frequencies have a beautiful blooming quality, expanding outward and giving the presentation a genuinely three-dimensional character.
The bass is substantial, with a noticeable lift that adds weight, warmth, and authority to the overall sound. There is plenty of physical presence, although the mid-bass can occasionally become a little too enthusiastic. Kick drums and floor toms, in particular, may sound slightly boomy on certain recordings, drawing more attention than intended. The midrange, meanwhile, is solid, naturally textured, and free from unnecessary aggression. Vocals and instruments carry convincing body, with smooth, organic transitions throughout.
The treble is thoughtfully balanced, offering abundant detail and air without becoming overly bright or fatiguing. Its slightly relaxed lower-treble presentation, followed by renewed energy in the upper frequencies, gives Dragonforged a revealing yet remarkably easygoing character. There is plenty to discover in the music, but nothing feels forced upon the listener. The result is a rich, immersive, and highly enjoyable sound that encourages extended listening.
The most noticeable practical compromise is the weight of the Damascus steel shells. While beautifully crafted, they are considerably heavier than conventional resin shells and may become tiring for some listeners over longer sessions. Sonically, Dragonforged also favors richness and spaciousness over absolute bass tightness and neutrality. These are meaningful trade-offs, but they do little to diminish its distinctive musical personality.

Engineering Insight: Shaping a Three-Dimensional Soundstage
What makes Dragonforged's spacious presentation particularly interesting is how its upper frequencies are balanced. Our measurements reveal a noticeable dip in the lower treble, followed by renewed energy higher up. This combination may help soften the forwardness of instruments while preserving the delicate overtones and air that make the sound feel more open.
The phase response also shows an interesting transition in this region, although it cannot independently explain soundstage dimensions. What we hear, however, is a convincing sense of depth and layering, with upper-frequency details blooming naturally outward rather than simply spreading left and right. It is a fascinating example of how careful tonal shaping can contribute to a more immersive and effortless listening experience.
